In Dreams
In Dreams was composed in 2023. It is for a mixed quartet, comprising of Trumpet in C, Clarinet in Bb, Bassoon and Harp.
Duration: c. 4 minutes, 30 seconds.
This score is a transposing score.
The work is inspired by dreams, with each section reflecting an element of this theme. The first section begins as a bright and playful passage, representing wakefulness. As the section continues, the energy starts to wane as sleep begins to call. The second section represents the beginning of a dream, having a lilting, sweet and warm sound. This then shifts into an irregular feel, creating a sense of unevenness and uncomfortableness as the dream shifts to something less pleasant. This tension builds into the next section - a frantic, fast and fiery section representing a nightmare. This is interrupted by a free and dreamy harp passage, which transforms the nightmare back into a dream. The final section is back with a bright, happy and sweet sound as the nightmare fully disappears as the pleasant dream is all that remains.
