Ouroboros

Ouroboros was composed in 2023 to 2024. It was premiered by the Canberra City Band on the 22nd of May 2026 at the Australian National Eisteddfod. The premiere occurred at Llewellyn Hall in Canberra, Sydney, and was conducted by Matt O'Keeffe.

It was additionally selected for the SCM Wind Band Reading Competition in 2023.

This work is inspired by the ouroboros - an ancient symbol depicting a snake or dragon eating its own tail, which represents everlasting cycles. The main cycle it is associated with is the cycle of life and death.

There are four main sections in this piece, with each reflecting a stage of this cycle - I. Beginning, II. Growth, III. Decay, IV. Renewal.
