This piece is based around the idea of trailblazing - the feelings of excitement and adventure that comes from being the first to do something. Anything could be around the corner, both the good and the bad could be incoming with every step - and despite facing the unknown, you must continue forward and find out what's to come.
This piece takes inspiration from various jazz styles and characteristics, including the fast running semiquaver melodic style, jazz harmonies, and swing waltz. In addition to the wind band instrumentation, this work also utilises instruments seen in jazz ensembles, including string bass, piano, guitar and drum set
