Pandemonium
Pandemonium was composed in 2023. It is scored for standard brass band.
Duration: c. 5 minutes
The word 'pandemonium' is often used to describe a wild, chaotic, and disorderly uproar - this work was composed after a period of high intensity workload, which often felt exactly like this. That feeling of overwhelming busyness is what this piece aims to represent - presented through the lens of a circus.
Calling a situation a 'circus' evokes very similar descriptors as calling it 'pandemonium', as well as having an
association with theatricality and spectacle which often applies as we watch these situations unfold.
Whether it be juggling different tasks, doing a balancing act between work and time away,
dealing with clowns and being overwhelmed by the staggering amount acts taking place, sometimes our lives can get very noisy, chaotic and energetic – and all you can do is hold on for the ride.
